Events to celebrate Dignity and Freedom Day on November 21

To mark the Day of Dignity and Freedom on November 21 and the anniversaries of the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity, the Maidan Museum, together with partners, is organizing a series of events in Kyiv. We have gathered the main points about the events that will take place from November 20 to 25. We invite everyone who wants to join us.

Scientific Forum “Revolution of Dignity: On the Path to History”

When: November 20-21, 10:00-17:00

Where: Information and Exhibition Center of the Maidan Museum, Independence Square, 18/2, 2nd floor

The focus of this year’s forum is “The Evolution of Protest Movements in Modern Ukraine: Empires, Wars, Identity”

The forum participants will discuss the role of protest actions in the modern history of Ukraine, their impact on the civilizational visions of Ukrainians, the formation of an active civil society, and Ukraine’s struggle for independence.

A Conversation with Field Commanders of the Orange Maidan: How the Experience of the Orange Revolution Was Applied in the Revolution of Dignity. From the “Evolution of Revolutions” Meeting Series.

Where: Information and Exhibition Center of the Maidan Museum, Independence Square, 18/2, 2nd floor

Exhibition “PROTEST / ARCHITECTURE. BARRICADES AND TENTS: THE WORLD AND UKRAINE”

When: until November 24, 12:00-19:00

Where: Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv, 7 B. Khmelnytskyi St., 3rd floor, Kyiv

Admission is free on the Day of Dignity and Freedom on November 21. The tour will take place at 17:00.

Tours of the exhibition are held daily. Weekdays start at 6:00 PM, weekends at 1:00 PM.
The tour is free, with the price of an entrance ticket.

Joint prayer for Ukraine and its freedom fighters

When: November 21 at 10:00 AM

Where: Ecumenical Church of Archpriest Michael and Ukrainian New Martyrs of the UGCC, Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred Alley, Kyiv, near the Bell of Dignity

Joint interfaith prayer for Ukraine and its freedom fighters on Dignity and Freedom Day. In memory of the fallen defenders of Ukraine, the Bell of Dignity will be rung, flowers will be laid at the portraits of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred and lamps will be lit.

“Conversation of Generations”. Public interview with Viktor Yushchenko

When: November 23

Where: National Center “Ukrainian House”, 2 Khreshchatyk St., Kyiv
We will inform registered participants of the time the day before.

A public interview with Viktor Yushchenko will take place in the exhibition space “We cannot be defeated… 20 years of the Orange Revolution”. Questions will be asked to Viktor Yushchenko by the generation of 20-year-olds who were born after the Orange Revolution or were small children at the time.

Tour “Places of the Revolution of Dignity. Initiatives of the Maidan”

Where: Gathering near the bust of Taras Shevchenko in front of the Kyiv City State Administration, Khreshchatyk St., 36

Panel discussion “Fixing Memory – Coding History in Space and Objects”

When: November 24 at 15:00

Where: Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv, B. Khmelnytsky St., 7, 3rd floor, Kyiv

The discussion will revolve around the challenges of remembering “complex” history, its interpretation in museums, and constructing narrative as a politics of memory. The participants of the discussion will also discuss the peculiarities of the museumification of traumatic events in the context of modern history - from the Holodomor, the shootings in Babyn Yar to the Revolution of Dignity and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Lesya Hasidzhak, ethnologist, director general of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide;

Yosyf Zisels, public figure and dissident, executive co-president of the VAAD of Ukraine, co-president of the International Memorial Charitable Foundation “Babyn Yar”;

Ihor Poshivaylo, candidate of historical sciences, director general of the National Museum of the Revolution of Dignity, public figure;

Vasyl Pavlov, military historian, head of the NGO “Center for Military History”, as an expert worked with the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

“Together - invincible”. Opening of a street photo exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Orange Revolution

When: November 25 at 12:00

Where: Independence Square, around the Independence Monument, Kyiv

The exhibition based on photographs from the archives of the Maidan Museum will be a vivid reminder of the events of the Orange Revolution as the first and defining experience of struggle and victory for the further formation of the Ukrainian nation.
