The Gas Institute
Information
The Gas Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was established in 1949 and is part of the Department of Physical and Technical Problems of Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The institution carries out significant scientific research and development aimed at implementation in various industries.
The institute carried out work on the use of natural gas in steelmaking and developed the scientific basis for converting the Marteniv furnaces to natural gas. In the field of industrial heat engineering, the theory of radiant heat exchange and the method of indirect radiation heating of metal have been developed.
The Institute has contributed to the development of cascade refrigeration cycles for liquefaction of natural gas and technologies for the production of carbon sorbents. Research is being conducted in the field of low-temperature plasma and the conditions for the formation of nitrogen oxides during the combustion of natural gas. The Institute has a specialized academic council for the defense of doctoral and candidate theses in thermal physics and industrial thermal power engineering.
