The Zoological Museum of Kyiv University is one of the oldest natural history museums of Ukraine and a unique scientific and educational institution. World-renowned biologists worked in the museum, whose works entered the treasury of world science. Well-known scientific schools in taxonomy, embryology, comparative anatomy and genetics were born and developed in the Zoological Museum.
Museum exhibits are widely used in the teaching of biological disciplines at the university and other educational institutions. The exposition and scientific collections of the museum include more than 5,500 species of animals from all parts of the globe. The museum has a significant number of exhibits, including species exterminated by man and species listed in the "Red Book of Ukraine" and the international "Red Book". The unique exhibition collections of mammals, birds and other groups of animals have a special attraction for visitors.
The pride of the museum is the world-famous collection of diurnal butterflies, which contains about 500,000 specimens and is of great scientific importance. Preservation and replenishment of fund collections and studying the diversity of the animal world are the main directions of the museum's activity at the current stage.
