Lev Volodymyrovych Pysarzhevskyi was a Ukrainian scientist in the field of physical chemistry, a doctor of chemical sciences and a valid member of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR and the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
His scientific works were devoted to the properties and structure of peroxides and superacids, the influence of the solvent on chemical equilibrium, electronic representations in chemistry, the electronic theory of redox reactions, and heterogeneous catalysis. He created the foundations of the electronic theory of the galvanic cell and the electronic theory of heterogeneous catalysis.
After Pysarzhevsky's death, the Institute of Physical Chemistry continued its work under the leadership of his students and remains the leading scientific institution in Ukraine in the field of physical chemistry.
