NMNH. Zoological Museum
Information
The Zoological Museum was founded on May 1, 1919, in 1966 it became part of the Central Natural Science Museum of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, and the following year, after a complete reconstruction, it opened to visitors.
The museum is located in the heart of Kyiv and occupies the third floor of the building of the National Science and Nature Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The museum's exposition is mainly presented in a long gallery and two large halls dedicated to birds and mammals. Now there are about 5,000 animals belonging to 4,000 species. The exposition of the museum is organized according to the scientific and systematic principle, and the main goal is the creation of landscape dioramas, of which there are already 16.
On December 10, 1996, the Scientific and Natural Museum received the status of National as a result of the order of the President of Ukraine. This status emphasizes the nationwide and international recognition of the high achievements of the museum.
