Platon Hryhorovych Kostyuk was an outstanding scientist and organizer of science. He headed the Department of General Physiology of the Nervous System at the Institute of Physiology named after O.O. Bogomolets of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and was the director of the same Institute. He was also the chairman of the State Fund for Basic Research and the president of the Union of Societies of Physiologists of the CIS.
Platon Hryhorovych Kostyuk is the author of many scientific publications, monographs, textbooks and inventions. He received numerous state and personal awards and prizes for his achievements in science. The main areas of his scientific research included neurophysiology, cellular biophysics and molecular biology. The scientist made a significant contribution to the understanding of the mechanisms of the nerve cell and pathological conditions of the brain and was a member of the governing bodies of many international societies of physiologists, neurophysiologists, pathophysiologists and biophysicists.
