"Homeland of Taras Shevchenko" — Shevchenkove
Information
Tourists visiting the Zvenigorod Region will forever be impressed by the majestic beauty of the local nature. It was here, in the village of Kerylivka, that the brilliant poet Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko grew up in the family of a serf.
At the end of the 19th century, a disaster struck the house where Kobzar grew up — lightning struck completely destroyed it. The house belonged to the descendants of T.G.'s older brother — Mykyta. At that time, no one lived in this very old house, because there was already a new house nearby. The estate belonged to the Shevchenko family until the beginning of museum construction. In the 1960s, a direct descendant of Mykyta Shevchenko — Kharytin Prokopovich Shevchenko — lived on the estate.
Now the museum has five halls for visitors, which tell about the family in which the national genius was born and grew up, about his childhood. Furniture of the Shevchenko family and furniture from the Engelhart palace, where little Taras served, are presented here. At the estate in honor of the 175th anniversary of the birth of T.G. Shevchenko in 1989, an exact copy of his native house was built. Kobzar's mother, Kateryna Yakymivna, is also buried here.
