Kharkiv Art Museum

The collection of the Kharkiv Art Museum is one of the oldest and most valuable art collections in Ukraine. The history of the museum begins in 1805 and includes the works of famous artists of the XVI-XVIII centuries. In the period from the 1920s to the Second World War, the museum underwent several reorganizations and underwent repressions, but it was considered one of the best in the USSR. As a result of the war, the museum suffered losses, but was rebuilt from recovered and found exhibits.
The post-war years were characterized by the museum's active activity, replenishment of the collection and increase in its popularity. In 1986, the Parkhom Art Museum, which had a unique collection, was added to the museum. Since 1994, the branch of the Kharkiv Art Museum has been the Museum of Folk Art of Slobozhanshchyna, which preserves rare examples of folk art.
Today, the funds of the Kharkiv Art Museum include about 25,000 exhibits, represented by paintings, graphics, sculptures and decorative and applied arts of the XV-XXI centuries. Exhibits in the museum come from the collections of different countries.
