Pharmacy-Museum "Under the Black Eagle"
Information
This unique museum is located in the old quarters of Lviv, surrounding Rynok Square. The facade of the first floor is decorated with relief portraits from ancient Greek mythology: Asclepius — the god of healing, and his daughter Hygiena — the goddess of health. Above the entrance group hangs a forged sign with the emblem of medicine — a snake coiling around a bowl and the date 1735. This pharmacy, known as "Under the Black Eagle", is one of the oldest not only in Lviv, but also in Ukraine.
The building has served as a pharmacy for more than two and a half centuries. It is the oldest of all existing pharmacies in Lviv and has been fulfilling its noble mission all this time. Opened in 1735 by the military pharmacist Natorp, the pharmacy changed owners but continued its activities. Today, it is state pharmacy No. 15 and continues to actively serve people, offering ready-made medicines, as well as souvenirs. Every day, hundreds of people visit this apothecary museum to buy medicine and learn more about the history of this place.
