Poltava Art Museum
Information
The collection of this state museum includes works of domestic and foreign art, as well as an ethnographic collection. The museum was founded in 1919 as a department of the local history museum and had different names until 1940, when it received the status of an independent museum.
The museum's collection is based on the collection of the itinerant artist Mykola Yaroshenko, including his works and the works of his colleagues and friends. During the Second World War, part of the exposition was destroyed, but after the war the museum resumed its work and replenished its collection. Due to technical problems of the building, the museum moved to new premises in 2000.
In the new premises, the exposition of the museum continues its chronological construction and contains works of art of Western Europe, Ukrainian and Russian artists, church utensils and other art objects. The museum actively uses the new premises to hold exhibitions and popularize its collection.
