The department was founded in 1922 and its first head was F.I. Levchenko. Well-known soil scientists such as M.M. Godlin, A.I. Zrazhevskyi, S.O. Zolotaryov, and P.V. Zakharchuk worked at the department. and other.
Employees of the department received recognition for their successes in scientific work.
Currently, the department employs 16 scientific and pedagogical workers, including 3 doctors of agricultural sciences and 11 candidates of sciences. According to the results of research, more than 100 candidates of sciences and 20 doctors of sciences have been protected at the department.
The department has a school of the founder of soil conservation agriculture, professor M.K. Shykula, which specializes in research and development of soil protection technologies for growing crops with minimization of soil cultivation and biologization of agriculture.
