Institute of Demography and Social Research named after M.V. Ptuha is the undisputed leader of scientific thought and research coordination in the field of demography and social economy in Ukraine and beyond. Director Mykhailo Ptukha spent a lot of effort on organizing the work of the Institute to ensure its maximum efficiency.

Already in the 1920s, a significant development of demographic science took place in Ukraine, and a comprehensive approach to the study of demographic phenomena was established. From the first days of its existence, the Institute conducted scientific research on various demographic problems, provided training of demographic personnel, coordinated relevant scientific research in the country, established scientific contacts with foreign colleagues.

Today, the main tasks of the Institute are to carry out fundamental and applied research on the socio-economic and demographic development of the country and its regions, to conduct scientifically based forecasts of socio-demographic development.
