Church of the Transfiguration in Velyki Sorochyntsi

Information
The Church of the Transfiguration in Velyki Sorochyntsi was built on the occasion of the acquisition of the hetman's mace by Colonel Danylo Apostol from Myrhorod. In the last two years of his life, the old and sick hetman did not leave Sorochyntsi, overseeing the completion of the construction and decoration of the church in which a tomb was being prepared for him. On April 9, 1809, Mykola Gogol was baptized here.
The uniqueness of the church is visible to the naked eye. Firstly, it is emphatically pyramidal, and secondly, its architectural volumes seem to play, flow into each other, giving the building the appearance of an almost living being. Also, there is a kind of external decoration made in the so-called "towel" style. The wall stucco has absorbed the best achievements of the Ukrainian Baroque. The 22-meter-high seven-tiered iconostasis unites more than a hundred icons. It is not even one, but three iconostases, ingeniously combined into a single composition.
