Collegium class

In the premises of the collegium, an exposition was created, dedicated to the history of education, which dates back to ancient Russian times. The materials of this exposition tell about the birth of writing in Russia and illustrate the spread of literacy among broad sections of the population. Pens, graffiti on frescoes, ceramic dishes, a plinth, spinning wheels and other artifacts are presented here.

The main attention is paid to the history of the Chernihiv Collegium, where the classroom of the educational institution is recreated with tables, benches, pages of handwritten textbooks of the 18th century, lists of students, certificates, books, an inkwell (inkpot), collegium seal, bell, cutters and other items. On the walls you can see an icon in the robes of St. John Maksymovich - the college's benefactor, as well as a portrait of Hetman Ivan Mazepa, who financially supported this educational institution. One of the unique exhibits is a plaque with the coat of arms of Ivan Mazepa, his monogram and an inscription about the construction of the church of John the Forerunner by the hetman on the bell tower of the collegium.
