    Information

Anthony Caves of the Trinity Monastery in Chernihiv are a monument of underground architecture of the XI-XIX centuries. They were founded in 1069 as a cave Christian monastery by Prince Svyatoslav Yaroslavych and St. Antony Pecherskyi. After the destruction of Chernihiv by the Mongol-Tatars in 1239, the development of the monastery stopped, but it was restored in the 17th century. Reconstructions carried out before the 19th century gave the Antoniev Caves their modern look.

The complex consists of underground rooms and passages about 350 meters long, located in the mountains. The caves are spread over two levels and have galleries and ancient graffiti inscriptions. Of particular value are the underground churches, in particular the temple of Theodosius of Totemsky, which is distinguished by the Ukrainian Baroque style. All churches have brick walls and metal icons. Anthony's Caves are an important object of the Chernihiv architectural and historical reserve, added to the list of monuments in 1967.
