Pochaiv History and Art Museum
Information
The Pochaiv History and Art Museum was founded in 1959 as a museum of atheism. In the initial stage of its existence, it covered the active atheistic propaganda of that time. The exposition of the museum chronologically recreated the history of religion and atheism, and also included a hall of cosmonautics and a hall of "Counterpropaganda", which followed the activities of Protestant churches and foreign religious organizations.
After the declaration of Independence of Ukraine in 1991, the name of the museum was changed, and it was now called the Pochaiv historical and artistic museum of spiritual culture. In 2002, the museum became independent again and was named the Pochaiv History and Art Museum. The exposition of the museum was organized as a complex of separate exhibitions devoted mainly to the history of the Pochaiv Lavra. Particular attention is paid to the exhibition "Sacred Art of Volyn" and the section that tells about T. G. Shevchenko's stay in Pochaev. The museum also preserved the section "Man and space", which aroused considerable interest among young people. The main fund of the museum includes about 40,000 exhibits, and its collection was transferred to the historical and art museum.
