Museum of Ukrainian home icons
Information
The world's only domestic icon museum is located in Radomysl Castle and is the largest icon museum in Eastern Europe. The collection of Christian art objects "Soul of Ukraine" is the largest Christian exhibition in the country. The museum was created by the famous doctor and public figure Olga Bogomolets. For 15 years, she collected more than 5,000 exhibits and saved them from destruction. Today, these home images from all over Ukraine can be seen in the exhibition halls of the castle.
The museum collection contains many unique icons created by professional artists and folk craftsmen. Folk icon painters were not bound by standard canons and created their icons based on their own ideas about the spiritual world. In each region of Ukraine, folk icon painting had its own unique features, color scheme and decoration. In contrast to the canonical Byzantine tradition, the images on folk icons were more alive and emotional. Each saint had his own human features and characteristics, depending on the region, and they were as close as possible to the real image.
