National Museum of Literature of Ukraine
Information
The National Museum of Literature of Ukraine is one of the most famous national museums of the country and the leading among museums of literary and literary-memorial profile. The museum is located in the very center of Kyiv, in a building that is a monument of history and architecture of the end of the 19th century — the former main building of the Pavel Galagan College, built in 1871 by architect O. Ya. Schille in the style of late classicism.
The founder of the College, Hryhoriy Pavlovich Galagan, was an outstanding Ukrainian public figure, a large landowner and a member of the State Duma. He actively supported Ukrainian culture and science, had personal connections with prominent figures such as Taras Shevchenko and Mykhailo Maksymovych.
The Museum presents a complex of documentary materials about the history of the College, including letters, notes and a donation record. Visitors also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the originals of documents from the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine and the Manuscript Institute of the Central Bank named after V. Vernadskyi.
