National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadskyi was founded on August 2, 1918 and is the largest library of Ukraine and the main scientific and information center of the state. The volume of library funds is more than 15.5 million storage units, including unique sources of information, such as books, magazines, manuscripts, old prints, newspapers, maps, sheet music and other materials. The library has the most complete collection of monuments of Slavic writing and handwritten books, archives and book collections of outstanding figures of Ukrainian and world science and culture.
Annually, 130,000-140,000 documents are added to the library's holdings, and the library also carries out an international book exchange with more than 680,000 partners from 70 countries. The institution provides information services to about 370,000 readers, and also functions as a depository of UN documents and materials in Ukraine. The library has various divisions, such as institutes, centers, the Fund of the Presidents of Ukraine, the National Law Library and the Service for Information and Analytical Support of State Authorities.
