Chernihiv Historical Museum of V.V. Tarnovsky is one of the oldest and most famous museums in Ukraine. It has more than 200 thousand monuments of material and spiritual culture. The museum was founded on November 14, 1896 as the Chernihiv Provincial Academic Archival Commission and its historical museum. In 1902, the V.V. Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities was opened. Tarnovsky based on the collection of Vasyl Tarnovsky Jr. In 1923, five Chernihiv museums merged into the Chernihiv State Museum.
After the war, the museum resumed its activities, and in the following years new units were created in it. In 1997, the museum was given the full name Chernihiv Regional Historical Museum named after V.V. Tarnovsky The museum actively participates in various events and festivals, and its work has received recognition and awards.
