In 1828, Pavlo Engelhart, the landowner of Taras Shevchenko, built his estate in Budyshchy, Cherkasy Region. The house became a favorite summer vacation spot for him and his wife, Sofia. It was here that Taras Shevchenko spent one summer as a сossachok. On the territory of the estate there was an arboretum, a cascade of ponds, shady alleys and ancient oaks that have survived to this day.
One of the oaks was also the place where little Taras hid his drawings in the hollow. The manor building housed a local school for some time. Not far from Budyshche you can find a windmill, which in the 19th century was one of the 28 windmills of this area.
